With its terracotta rooftops and wondrous city walls, how could Game of Thrones resist Dubrovnik as a filming location? The answer is, it couldn’t! As time flies by, this soulful city’s popularity has continued to skyrocket – we’re talking 1.27m tourists in 2018 alone (that’s 8% more than the year before)!

With such an amazing number of budding GOT fans flocking here year-round, it’s no surprise that bar, restaurant and attraction prices have risen too! But never fear, Jet2holidays is here and we’ve got some tried and tested tips for tackling Dubrovnik on a budget. You can thank us later!

1. Buy a Dubrovnik Card

Available in one, three or seven day passes, this handy little card is your ticket to fun in the Croatian sun. The Dubrovnik Card includes entry to the historic city wallsMaritime Museum and the Friars Minor Franciscan Monastery Museum to name but three. The one-day pass costs around £27, but when the city walls tickets alone are £24, this is a great-value option if you plan on attraction-hopping your way around the city.

2. Visit free attractions

Dubrovnik has loads of free attractions, it’s just knowing where to find them. Step inside the amazing Dubrovnik Cathedral to marvel captivating artwork and elegant archways or book onto a free walking tour to learn about the history and culture of this spellbinding city. Lots of the churches in the Old Town are free to enter too, including the remarkable Church of Saint Blaise.

3. Have a beach day

When the city centre’s so captivating, it’s easy to forget there are dreamy beaches right on your doorstep. Copacabana Beach lies around 5km outside the Old Town in the nearby area of Babin Kuk. This picturesque pebbled plot is well worth a visit. There are loungers to hire but save cash by your laying down your towel in one of the free sections. The beach is backed by cafés and loos which is super handy too!

4. Bag some bargain bites

It’s difficult to escape the Old Town’s inflated restaurant prices if you stick to the tourist track. To keep costs down, grab a giant slice of pizza on-the-go from one of the tucked-away bakeries for around £3.50. Picnics are also the way forward around these parts. Corner shops selling fresh fruit, bread, cheese and chilled drinks really come in handy. Simply seek out a scenic spot in the town and tuck in.

5. Say hello to happy hour!

Hunting down Dubrovnik’s happy hour offers is no mean feat but luckily, we’ve done the hard work for you! The Irish bars are definitely your best bet if budget bevs are what you’re after. Bag 241 drinks at both The Gaffe Pub or Irish Pub Karaka between 6-7pm. Handy, considering they’re practically next door to one another!
